    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is Naval Brass C46200?

Naval brass C46200 is a Cu-Zn-Sn alloy (~62 Cu, 37 Zn, 0.6-1.0 Sn) per ASTM F467 - the tin addition gives dezincification resistance suitable for seawater service. Tensile 60-75 ksi. The classic alloy for marine nut where cost matters more than ultimate corrosion performance.

How does C46200 compare to C46400 naval brass?

C46200 has slightly different Cu/Zn ratio (60/40 nominally vs 60/40 for C46400) with similar tin content. C46400 is the more-common naval brass spec; C46200 is essentially interchangeable for most marine nut applications.

    Seawater nut performance?

Acceptable for clean seawater service at ambient temperature. For severe marine conditions (warm sea water, chloride pitting, polluted harbor water), step up to nickel-aluminum bronze C63000 or cupro-nickel C71500.

    Available dimensional patterns?

ASME B18.2.1 hex bolts, B18.5 round head, B18.6.7M metric machine screws, B16.5 flange studs (marine valve service).
