Grade 4 is the strongest commercially-pure titanium per ASTM F467 (oxygen 0.40% max). Tensile 80 ksi min, yield 70 ksi min, elongation 15% min. Used where high CP-titanium strength is needed - aerospace airframe brackets, high-pressure heat exchanger bolting, and dental + medical applications.
Grade 4 is unalloyed (Ti only) so it retains the full corrosion resistance of CP titanium with about 70% the strength of Grade 5. Grade 5 adds aluminum + vanadium for an additional 30% tensile / 60% yield strength at the cost of slightly more crevice + chloride sensitivity. Choose Gr 4 for corrosion-critical applications, Gr 5 for strength-critical.
Yes - all titanium grades are NACE MR0175-listed with normal acceptance criteria.
Aerospace structural fasteners, high-pressure plate heat-exchanger nut (Grade 4 plates need Grade 4 bolts to avoid galvanic mismatch), and specialty chemical-process applications requiring CP-Ti corrosion with higher strength.
