    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is Aluminum 2024 (A92024)?

Aluminum 2024 is an Al-Cu-Mg-Mn alloy (~4.4 Cu, 1.5 Mg, 0.6 Mn) - the workhorse high-strength aerospace aluminum per ASTM F467 for nonferrous nut. Most nut is supplied in T351, T4, or T81 temper. Tensile 60-70 ksi, yield 40-50 ksi in T4 condition. Vastly higher strength than 6xxx-series, lower corrosion resistance.

When use 2024 aluminum bolts over 6061?

Use 2024 for aerospace structural fasteners and any application where the strength + fatigue performance of T4/T81 temper is required. Use 6061 for general structural, marine, and corrosion-exposed nut where 2024's reduced corrosion resistance is a problem.

How is 2024 corrosion resistance vs 6061?

2024 has 4.4% copper which makes it susceptible to intergranular and exfoliation corrosion in chloride environments. For marine nut and structural seawater service, 6061 (Mg-Si, no Cu) is the standard choice. For aircraft frames, 2024's strength wins.

    Available dimensional patterns?

Aerospace standards (NAS, MS, AS) dominate 2024 nut demand. ASME B18.2.1 hex bolts and B18.3 socket head cap screws available per F467 in 2024-T4 / T351 for general engineering.
